about

Composed and recorded for Reverb Theatre's production of Peter Pan, adapted by Ellie Heard and directed by Henry Tobias, performed as part of the Adelaide Fringe from February 20th-22nd, 2014.

Praise for 'Peter Pan':

'The final word goes to the soundtrack, which was composed by Jacob Whitelock; it was hauntingly beautiful and perfectly complimented the story.' - Ben Williams, 'Rip It Up'

'The soundtrack ... was haunting and playful, complementing the tale and the character of the adaption.' - Heather McNab, Kryztoff RAW

'Reverb are lucky to have talented musicians in their band, with a soundtrack written by Jacob Whitelock' - Christine Pyman, Broadway World

'...the production is enhanced by original music written by Jacob Whitelock.' - Linda Edwards, Adelaide Theatre Guide

Wearing the influences of Nico Muhly, Philip Glass, Lowercase Noises and Sigur Rós on his sleeve, Jacob has created a sparse, ambient, piano-led instrumental accompaniment to the story of Peter Pan, journeying from the lulling confines of the Darling Nursery to the fearful decks of the Jolly Roger.

The concept flowing through the score is one that generally foregoes complexity, instead favouring a softer, simpler and considerably juvenile accompaniment to the words and movements on-stage, creating atmosphere around the cast rather than dictating the actions on stage. The flow of the score is riddled with reprisal of previous themes, and variations upon the same set of chords, stringing the characters and plot lines together in a series of musical threads.

Thanks for listening, and enjoy!
